Was not easy! We are called back in groups, waiting in line, fill out forms, fingerprints of both hands! Face with eyes scan photo, passport show and especially the bootpas not forget. The latter is very convenient because everything you buy on board or additional use, this card is processed and credited to your account, which therefore, in four months, rising to great heights!

We are now on their way to the last "Port of call LA The latest news is that in LA the same day we disembark, 1500 young people come aboard for a trip to Alaska. How do they do it all?

After a night sail arriving in Seattle. Weather and completely different look than Vancouver. A very large busy port with many piers close to the city. In all of these muscles is to do something. The bus tour begins, to my feeling quite uncomfortable. The sky is overcast, no man on the street, nothing open. Our female driver is also weather guide. I think this is dangerous. With such a large bus through the city and tell your story, but she does fine. First to the old center, to "Pioneer Square Seattle's birthplace in 1852. Here we see an impressive sculpture group of firefighters in memory of the great fire of 1889, the center was destroyed and 37 people died. The buildings were of wood. After the fire was rebuilt in red brick. There are still a lot of not very high brick buildings in the center, which has now been declared monuments and many are restored. Here is also a fountain as a monument to mark the celebration of the founding of UPS, headquartered in Seattle. UPS in addition, other well-known companies based in Seattle, including Starbucks, Boeing Aircraft, and last target as the big nut least, HAL, Holland America Lines!

We are heading to the "Space Needle" for a magnificent view over the city also called "Emerald City". In 42 seconds we whiz up 145 meters high. I notice especially at the Science Museum, a building by Richard Geary. Our guide said that the ugliest building in the city. I do not agree with her, I feel privileged. From here to old houses because they have also learned that not everything you need to break if you want an attractive history opbouwen.en not only new forum.

The streets are beautiful and are often steeply, as in San Francisco. Last visit the Pike Place Market, the largest outdoor farmers' market on the West Coast. All natural big. Big fish, crabs, and sprouts ....... tulips! The tulips are incredibly large and beautiful bouquet costs U.S. $ 10.00. Traders and bouquet makers Asians. Above a shed is a Dutch name, "Turn Makers". There seem too large tulip fields around Seattle to be like us. When I buy a Russian bakery hot apple kaneelbun. Delicious! At the end of market is the "Flying Fish Stand" If someone buys fish is accompanied with a lot of shouting, packaged and air dropped over the counter. The gum wall, we missed it. We have been told that everyone from his gum off may be due to this paste on the wall. Good idea, but dirty!

Arrival (after six days) in Vancouver. Feel good again land under the feet! It's really beautiful, the entrance between the mainland and Vancouver Island with stunning views, a coast with rocks in the sea, islands and beautiful wooded views of the blue sea that is wrinkle free. The ship moors a beautiful pier, within walking distance from the center of town. Everything looks just ended due to the patent from 2010 Winter Olympics. It seems one of the most liveable cities in the world and it is a highlight of the trip! Has high percentage of the population are Asians. Vancouver's Chinatown is the second-largest in North America. It's incredibly neat and clean.

During our excursion we drive through the old "Gaslight" district, very picturesque. We are also referred to an existing very large drug problem, the guys keep themselves in a street here in the neighborhood. Hereafter we drive through Stanley Park, a natural park with ancient trees and beautiful scenery everywhere and opposite views of the beautiful buildings. Viewpoint on the big bridge where we also "Amsterdam" underneath dangers. Also on the water a beautiful residential area with very expensive flatgebouwen.De bus driver is also the guide, a retired gentleman with a lot of travel experience! The park is a beautiful and original collection of totem poles to see the original Indian stammen.Het park is 5.5 miles long protected by a seawall against the fierce winter storms. In 2006, a storm of almost hurricane force, many old trees felled, where the stumps are still visible. After the bus tour, I still return to the Gaslightdistrict (Sunday). The shops are now open and there is much more life on the streets. The sail is again as great as the entry. Truly a beautiful city and a highlight of our trip!

Wednesday, 1921 to Saturday, April 24 at sea on its way to Vancouver (days 105 to 108)

Rescue mission in the Gulf of Alaska: a sudden heavy strain on the ship! Olav announces a rescue of the American Coast Guard and U.S. Airforce. Within twenty minutes there will be a passenger from the aircraft, which require medical attention on board can not be given. It storms with strong winds and snow storms, so what will happen? We are asked to stay where we are, so no unnecessary traffic on the ship. I immediately put the "bow" TV. That is the image of a camera constantly on the foredeck of the ship and sea in the sailing direction oriented. Nice when you arrive in a port or departs. Nothing to see, but suddenly appears above the ship, a large helicopter and a small plane. This is accompanied with much noise and it starts to storm and snow. You feel like a movie script! We watch from the balcony, it seems all very long delays. The ship is nearly silent and began to pound heavily and running with the waves. The helicopter flies at an angle of ninety degrees to the foredeck. The door is open and there is a lifting bar above. The first time failed to appear at the right position to take over the ship because the helicopter is running another round for half attempt. Then apparently it succeeds because after a while the helicopter flies away, toward Alaska. Except for the flying in and out of the helicopter we could see nothing of the action.

At 20:00 we go to the table and everyone is talking about it. Gisela appears, the ship's doctor at our table with her husband to loud applause and quite relieved! There is a passenger successfully from the aircraft. Everyone thinks the same, it will be about a person's birthday. But no, it would only confuse and Gisela can say is that it is a twenty-six year-old husband, who require medical attention that the ship can not provide. They were on the medical service one night and one day already been doing. So we had an interesting conversation about what may happen if all of you and so, at sea, not the Gentiles are delivered .....

The next day, so Thursday, the stories go. The victim was a young man who, every evening and night, the dead had been drinking at the bar. He was on board with an older man who was his godfather. This guy has been through many drinks, have a serious liver disease and was no longer approachable and reasonable. Olav told him on board could not help and he also gave the ship a lot of inconvenience to passengers who raped him in the neighborhood had! He is dehelicopter to Kodiak Island and then to a hospital in Anchorage. No further news.

Everything is on board as usual! Party tonight. The ship still fluctuates, but the weather is on its way to Vancouver, a little better. It is a very long journey to Vancouver.

Last night we had the last formal night and the theme was "fairy tales". The fourth and fifth floor again beautifully decorated. For the passengers there was little enthusiasm for dressing up but everyone was' obliged to appear in evening dress. There are a few beautiful dresses, sometimes with allies and our borders "Barbie-passenger" had another ridiculously short pofbroekachtig lace dress. Bruce was one of Ceremonies and talked funny (twisted) fairy tale together. His staff had the craziest names such as Ella Joyce Salmon instead of Cinderella. All (fairy) story based on events on the ship. At the end it fell from the ceiling, down a boat made of balloons. All balloons were stung by the public document because in four of it was a price! At exactly 11:00 p.m. is over.

Now we have gradually come to think about the trip and pay for everything. Three cities are awaiting our visit Vancouver, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Friday morning we went to a coffee and chat with Bruce Joyce. He is a kind of prodigy, and plays piano really beautifully. Is also in New York, musical director and conductor on Broadway was. Our bar pianist, "Stryker" is a nice guy but he trembles at loose.
PS Our Dutch friend Frank from Aruba has just won first prize in the photo contest with a picture of a monkey with a mirror shard in his leg which he understands itself. There was a single photo of two penguins on the beach, passing the cruise ship "Amsterdam" overlooked sail.

Now the "distortions fever" broke out. In Vancouver and Seattle are quite a few people boarded. We all had been a morning information and also said goodbye to all the hotel staff and officers, they all came on stage, smiling and waving and Bruce could not have emotions in control. It sounds silly, but four months together in a room (or large and comfortable) creates a bond. We are now aware how it should be for the "debarcation" and the party continues with considerably fewer people.

Our new friends, Frank and Liz Bonset from Aruba've also already left and he has us one of the bronze boar cured, which are heavy and we do not need two. ... It is duplicate of one of the two bears (very large) to the pool and by an artist.
